School Cell Phone & Electronic Device Policy SY 2025-2026

Effective August 1, 2025, all New York State schools are required to adopt a policy that prohibits the use of personal internet-enabled devices during the school day on school grounds. An "internet-enabled electronic device" is defined as an electronic device capable of connecting to the internet and enabling the user to access content on the internet. Examples of such devices include cell phones, smartphones, smartwatches, laptops, tablets, iPads, and portable music and entertainment systems.

The Magnet School of Journalism and Multimedia at P.S. 202K will unlock the infinite potential that exists within each child and the school community through our love for children. From planning and preparation to the execution of lessons and extracurriculars, adults will heighten students’ experiences in an effort to augment their academic, social and emotional competencies. Through ongoing community partnerships, with a focus on journalism and multimedia, all stakeholders will continuously develop and enhance their ability to move students along the continuum of achievement.

Who We Are

Magnet Schools are public schools of choice. Magnet schools are visionary, innovative and open to students regardless of zip code. Every magnet school has a special theme that makes it different and unique. Specialized curricula are developed that align to the school’s theme with student activities designed to promote excellence in all arenas. Currently funded magnet schools integrate STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) into all academic subjects and school activities. Magnet schools are designed to attract students of all backgrounds who are looking for a specialized academic experience.
